ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Marisol Flores Millican is the owner and artistic director of Alma Gitana Dance Company. Marisol began dancing professionally at the age of 13 years old for various dance companies including Fandango, Ballet Folklorico de San Antonio, Flamenco Fuego de San Antonio, and toured the United States with the Boston Flamenco Ballet. In addition, Marisol appeared in Tejano Superstar, Michael Salgado's music video, "Mi Chatita" and then appeared with him on the Miami-based morning show, Despierta America to promote his video.

Although Marisol has an extensive background in flamenco and folklorico dance, she also trained in other styles including ballet, jazz, and clogging. As a dancer, she trained under the direction of over 30 dance teachers which allowed her to experience different dance styles as well as various teaching styles. 

Marisol has trained hundreds of dancers of all ages and all levels. Her teaching credits include The San Antonio Parks & Recreation Cultural Dance Program, S.A.I.S.D. as an Artist-in-Education, The International Folk Culture Center at Our Lady of the Lake University, and various dance studios. Marisol has also taught numerous dance workshops for students in San Antonio, Killeen, and surrounding areas. 

Marisol has a passion for teaching and a love for children. Two years ago, she retired from classroom teaching to focus on her love for dance. 

Today, Marisol continues to perform professionally and is eager to share her love for the art of dance.
